This is AI slop. But does it matter?
Last week I finished v1 of my new saas, expensesok.com. The server was setup and ready. All the apis and services were connected properly and the landing page was redesigned to look more professional. The site was live. What a wonderful feeling. I took a moment to acknowledge the achievement.

Then I shared the design on X and on Ship or die discord. All the comments were about the design looking like AI slop. Initially I thought this is a bad thing, so I changed some parts like the hero section to make it look less “fake”. Then I posted again. It looked better, but people still found it AI slop.
As Seth Godin once said, if people are giving bad reviews for your product, thank them. This means its not for them.
The two people that signed up were friends. One owning a small physical store, and the second working as a freelancer. Small businesses is my target group so both were in. However none of them complained about the landing page.
On the contrary one of my friends gave me a lot of feedback about the inside of the app, beyond the landing page. I heard what their pain was, what problems they were trying to solve but couldn’t. These issues were very specific to how the greek tax rules and system are working.
This made me think. Maybe I should focus on greek businesses? If marketing and distribution is an issue, I can find very easily hundreds of small local businesses. I can speak their language, I can better understand their pain. It is time for the next iteration.
